The Local Area
The cottage has magnificent views over the glorious unspoilt Shropshire/Herefordshire countryside and is not overlooked from any direction. Walkers can enjoy the scenery from the miles of footpaths beginning from the doorstep. The thriving town of Ludlow is situated approximately eight miles to the east and is famous for its summer festival of arts, literature and music, its food festival in the autumn, its medieval castle and its wealth of wonderful restaurants.
Farmer's Markets selling locally grown produce are held in the town square where a general market is held on most days of the week. There are also Tesco and Somerfield supermarkets. The historic cathedral city of Hereford where you can see the famous Mappa Mundi, and the fashionable market town of Shrewsbury are approximately 40 minutes drive, each in opposite directions from the cottage.
The village of Leintwardine which is within easy walking distance has a post office, petrol station with well equipped stores including newsagent video hire etc, fish and chip shop, traditional prize winning butcher selling home made pies, pasties and sausages, two pubs - The Sun and the Lion Hotel, and two restaurants, one at the Lion and the other The Jolly Frog. There are also lots of country pubs selling good food within about ten to fifteen minutes drive from the cottage.
The village church holds Church of England and Roman Catholic services and a Methodist chapel is nearby.
